Is there really anything more precious and amazing as a newborn baby? I had the honour of meeting and photographing Michelle and Chris’s newborn daughter, Brielle, in June of this year. I had gotten to know Michelle a few months before this session, when I had the privilege of photographing her for her maternity session. She expressed to me that she “loved how I was able to incorporate the whole family, giving every person their own time”. It was a joy to now meet this little bundle earthside!
Brielle Ray was born May 5th at 6:20am at McMaster Children’s Hospital after Michelle had over 15 hours of labor. She was 8 lbs 2oz and 21 inches long. Michelle and Chris used a midwife and student midwife to help bring their new baby girl into the world. Brielle is the third daughter that has been welcomed into the Wilson family, after big sisters Azure-lee (8) and Jessalyn (6).
The couple’s first emotions when their first saw their new girl was “pure joy, love, happiness and relief that she was okay. Also, not going to lie, complete exhaustion.”. Not surprising after a lengthy labour and delivery! These two were elated, as it took them just over a year to get pregnant with Brielle – their third (and final) child. Azure-lee and Jessalyn were so excited and happy to have a little sister. Jessalyn had informed the Wilson’s that it was a girl right from the start of Michelle’s pregnancy. When asked what she would do if it was a baby boy, her response was always: “If it is a boy, I will still love him, but its going to be a girl.” Sure enough, she was right and baby girl Brielle joined the family. Brielle seemed relaxed and comfy behind the lens. The Wilson’s didn’t do anything special to prepare Brielle for this photo session; it was just an ordinary at home. They were more worried about their 2 older daughters being photographed, and how that experience would go. Michelle said, “Jennifer was so patient and worked well with their energy”. They were great kids and easy to work with. I’m thrilled everyone was so comfortable!
Michelle’s advice for someone preparing for their own newborn session is to “try a warm room, feed your baby beforehand and stay relaxed. Jennifer is amazing with babies and kids of all ages. Have fun and enjoy!” I appreciate those words Chris and Michelle. Wishing your family all the best with this precious new blessing!
