One year ago, Robin & Erik, along with their adorable 2 year old daughter Ava, had a casual and fun family session with me at Dyment’s Farm in Dundas. The Miller family had a great experience there, the year before, and wanted a natural setting and action shots of them enjoying time together as a family. This location was beautiful and they loved the wagon ride around the farm.
There was so much for them to do and explore together and the atmosphere made the perfect spot for me to capture these precious memories. Ava was a joy to photograph as she rode her little bike around the maze of hay bales. She wore her favourite hat and it looked so pretty on her. According to her parents, she had worn that hat every day for months! It was the only “prop” they chose for the shoot and it was perfect.
The family decided to wear “every day clothes” to be as natural as possible; their focus was on the activity, not on what they wore. I asked the family if they were worried about their session before it took place. Their response was touching: “Not at all. I knew Jennifer completely understood my vision and would do a fantastic job because she took the time to come over and meet with us beforehand to get to know us and what we wanted. I just knew how much she cared and wanted to give us what we wanted so I didn’t have any fears. The outcome would only be awesome memories.” This couple, who are avid Formula 1 racing fans, advises other families preparing for their own family photo sessions to “take the time to explore your vision with Jennifer so she can explore it with you – then she will give you exactly what you want.” That is certainly my goal and I’m thrilled my client’s vision shone through these portraits.
Robin and Erik’s favourite part of the session was, “The video Jennifer created of the experience put to the most perfect song is the most perfect way to capture our day forever.” It was a joy to create it for them. Ava’s sweet smile was definitely contagious and it was easy to see that the Miller’s loved each moment watching their beautiful daughter explore new things and experience the simple joys of the farm. These parents just adore their little girl, who has already gone through so much in her short life! Ava has a Congential Heart Defect (CHD) called Tetrology of Fallot and had open heart surgery at 4 weeks old. This girl has such strength in her small body and I have no doubt she will continue to touch the hearts of others, as she did mine. It was a honour to capture the Miller Family behind my lens.
